Why You Should Listen

People want organic, non-GMO foods more than ever, but unfortunately, these products aren’t always widely accessible at an affordable price. This is a problem that Gunnar Lovelace, founder and co-CEO of Thrive Market, has grappled with throughout his career and his company is hoping to close the gap between healthy food and access. Thrive Market is an online marketplace where you can buy some of the most popular plant-based, organic, and non-GMO groceries for 25-50 percent less than regular retailers. Thrive runs on a subscription model, but to ensure that everyone can take advantage of these low prices, they also donate free memberships to families in need.

In this episode, Gunnar talks about how growing up poor with a single mother helped craft his views on affordable food and drove his passion for reinventing our food system from the inside out. He is also well versed in how modern capitalism is designed to externalize a lot of the costs that make unhealthy food so cheap.

With these two things in mind, Gunnar set out to change how people purchase groceries, cutting out the middlemen to foster more just and sustainable supply chains that can effectively lower the cost of better quality food and products for the consumer.

To learn more about how Gunnar hopes to transform the food system by making healthy, organic food affordable and accessible to everyone, listen in!
